They started slowly with a few families taking over a year to envision their eco village in detail and document its constitution and founding principles before starting and growing their community. Run on democratic principles with no special powers for the founders. All members are co-responsible for all village issues and expected to be involved. This is a good eco village to visit if you are wanting to do this as they are happy to share their experience and many residents speak English and other foreign languages. GRISHINO
(www.grishino.ecology.net.ru/en/). 100 miles from St Petersburg. Another successful example of an eco village which is closer to Europe. They took over an abandoned rural village in the Russian countryside for the base of their eco village which helped speed up its development.
